Saying Goodbye

Have you heard of post mortem photography?  Back in the 1800s, it became a trend (sorry, can’t think of a good word to use here) to take photos of your loved ones after they died in tribute to them. In those days, that port mortem picture may be the only one you ever had taken, and sometimes the only family living a distance away would have seen you.

I’ve always found them quite eerie, but this one in particular caught my eye when I saw it. Obviously, the ‘man’ must’ve been a soldier, and I will assume he was missing or killed in action. I’ve never seen another photo done with clothing, but no corpse.
